Graypaw and ABEC Partner to Deliver AI-Powered Weld Inspection for Biopharma Manufacturing

Graypaw is proud to announce a new collaboration with ABEC, a global leader in custom bioprocess solutions, to bring cutting-edge cognitive vision technology to the forefront of quality control in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

The joint initiative focuses on developing an AI-powered inspection system for assessing the weld quality of plastic connector ports and bioreactor bags used in single-use bioprocess systems. By combining Graypaw’s machine perception technology with ABEC’s deep expertise in single-use solutions, the partnership aims to transform how weld integrity is verified in sterile production environments.

The solution will allow operators to perform post-weld inspections using a compact, mobile vision station. Equipped with polarized lighting, machine perception technology, and an intuitive tablet interface, the system detects weld defects in real time and flags potential issues for operator validation. All inspection data — both accepted and flagged — is logged for continuous learning and remote supervisory review.

The first working prototypes are being finalized, with end-to-end testing beginning soon. Full deployment into production environments is expected later this year, bringing increased speed, consistency, and traceability to biopharma welding quality checks.
